Price guide to antique vanity box sets. Vanity cases usually contained all of the items necessary for a lady or gentleman to maintain their grooming. Many of these cases were designed for travelling. A lady’s vanity box set could contain jars and bottles for powder, rouge, hat pins and many other vanity items. A gentleman’s may contain shaving accessories, clothes brushes and other items.

A VICTORIAN SILVER-GILT TRAVELLING DRESSING TABLE SET MARK OF THOMAS JOHNSON, LONDON, 1865 Comprising eleven various mounted glass bottles and a beaker, all engine-turned covers set with gilt reserve engraved with monogram below an earl’s coronet and encircled with a turquoise bead bezel, also 10 various manicure items and other implements including a thimble, a corkscrew and a propelling pencil by Sampson Mordan, a medicine spoon and an ivory vanity mirror (the manicure items unmarked), the cover fitted with a a mirror but lacking a handmirror for which there is a space, all contained in a brass-bound coromandel box by W. Leuchars of 38, Piccadilly, lined in blue velvet, the cover inlaid with the earl’s coronet and monogram, complete with key 13 in. long (33 cm.). Sold for GBP 2,500 at Christies in 2014

A Victorian coromandel vanity case,, George Betjemanns & Sons, London, 1879 comprising; five various rectangular toilet boxes, four oval and circular jars, and two bottles, with silver tops and cut-glass bodies; a twenty-four piece mother-of-pearl and steel manicure set; and an 8-piece ivory dressing table set; the case with purple velvet interior, chromium plated locks, in a fitted leather travel case box34.3cm.,13 1/2 in. long; 22.9cm., 9in. high. Asprey travelling vanity case, sterling silver, cut glass and calamander, with brass trim. Numerous cut glass and sterling lidded jars, with sterling by Abraham Brownett, 1863, London, case marked “Asprey, Manufacturer to Her Majesty, 166 Bond St. W. ” two locking compartments, with mirror and notebook in top lid, measuring 7 by 13 by 9.5 inches. Jars and bottles clear glass with fluted and stylized garlands and pendant ornament, with silver covers. Knife has mother of pearl handle.For the lady on the go, who keeps up standards. Everything to stay scraped, filed, depilated, powdered, and scented. Marked with Minerva heads and maker’s stamps.

Cartier 18 Piece Sterling Traveling Vanity Set with a leather case. The handle marked Cartier London. The set contains an assortment of sterling boxes, glass jars all marked sterling Cartier with 3 extra unsigned pieces. Most pieces have monogram. 2 handle tray with pieces removal for underneath storage. With original tray. 20″ wide, 16″ deep, 7 ” tall. Condition: Good! Leather case has a few minor marks.
