A diamond-set ‘marguerite’ compact and lipstick case, by Boucheron, circa 1965 The compact embossed with repeating daisy motifs and studded with brilliant-cut diamonds, the push piece set with brilliant-cut diamonds, opening to reveal a powdered well and mirror, the lipstick holder of similar design, both signed Boucheron Paris, maker’s marks, French assay marks, compact width 7.5cm, lipstick case length 5.3cm, maker’s suede pouches.

The reeded rectangular case decorated at the front with a pierced and engraved design of birds and butterflies amongst flowering vines, accented with collet-set circular-cut rubies, opening to reveal two compartments, measuring approximately 82 x 57 x 14mm, signed Boucheron, numbered, French assay marks for silver and maker’s marks, gross weight 172.24 grams; 1950s, case stamped Boucheron.

Price guide to antique vanity box sets. Vanity cases usually contained all of the items necessary for a lady or gentleman to maintain their grooming. Many of these cases were designed for travelling. A lady’s vanity box set could contain jars and bottles for powder, rouge, hat pins and many other vanity items. A gentleman’s may contain shaving accessories, clothes brushes and other items.

Jars and bottles clear glass with fluted and stylized garlands and pendant ornament, with silver covers. Knife has mother of pearl handle.For the lady on the go, who keeps up standards. Everything to stay scraped, filed, depilated, powdered, and scented. Marked with Minerva heads and maker’s stamps.

Cartier 18 Piece Sterling Traveling Vanity Set with a leather case. The handle marked Cartier London. The set contains an assortment of sterling boxes, glass jars all marked sterling Cartier with 3 extra unsigned pieces. Most pieces have monogram. 2 handle tray with pieces removal for underneath storage. With original tray. 20″ wide, 16″ deep, 7 ” tall. Condition: Good! Leather case has a few minor marks.
